Mission and Outreach Ministry
The purpose of the Mission and Outreach Ministry at First Baptist Church Gilmerton is to reach those who are outside the walls of our Church with the message and the love of Jesus Christ. We do this by ministering to all we meet, especially those who are unsaved, un-churched, homeless, incarcerated as well as those that are away from home attending school (Colleges and Universities), We are blessed to be able to serve in the mission field in our community, nationally and internationally with our prayer and through our work in the missionary projects and our benevolence ministry.
Christian Education Ministry
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
Through our study programs at First Baptist Gilmerton, we support life-long learning and discipleship. Christian education for people of all ages, from pre-school through senior adults, is at the very heart of our church. We strive to ensure that members are nurtured in faith, grow in knowledge and experience, and are inspired and empowered to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. Our goal in Christian Education is to equip members of the Body of Christ
Feeding/Fellowship
The Food Bank/Pantry at First Baptist Church is a part of our Ministry that seeks to create a hunger free community by sharing our abundant blessings with God’s people that are in need.
The Food Pantry Ministry was started by a few members of the congregation. Originally operating from a tiny storage closet, the Food Pantry has grown as the need within the community has grown.
We are called to action by the Holy Scriptures to feed the hungry and satisfy their thirst see (Isaiah 58:10, Matthew 25:35 NRSV).
But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous. (Luke 14:13-14) NRSV
